STARS Welcomes Veterans

STARS helps UCSC to welcome students who are military veterans and invites them to participate in a wide variety of academic and personal support services and programs. A designated adviser for veterans, Dani Molina, is available on a drop-in or by-appointment basis to assist with your transition to the campus and help you get started on your UCSC educational path. Dani is available from 9-4 in his office, 102 ARCenter. Please call Dani, 459-1520 or to speak with another adviser, call the main STARS number at 831-459-2552.

VETS Helping Veterans
UC Santa Cruz Services for Transfer and Re-Entry Students (STARS) has a program for veterans returning to school called Veterans Education Team Support (VETS). In this peer mentor program veterans meet with other veterans and receive assistance as they navigate admission and transition into university life. STARS is currently training new VETS peer mentors, for more information click on: Veterans Education Team Support (VETS).

UCSC Registrar's Veteran Services
The Veteran Services staff acts as a liaison between the Department of Veterans Affairs and students who, as veterans, veterans’ dependents, or reservists, receive education benefits. The staff also assists with the California Department of Veterans Affairs’ college fee-waiver program for children of veterans who have service-connected disabilities or who have died from service-related causes. Students who are California residents apply for the college fee-waiver program through their home county Veterans Services Office.
Students who are veterans or veterans’ dependents should contact Veteran Services as soon as they receive notification of admission to UC Santa Cruz to ensure timely processing of their benefit claims.

Gloria Rodriquez, UCSC's V.A. Certifying Official, is located at 160 Hahn Student Services Building. An appointment may be arranged by calling (831) 459-2709 or by e-mail at registrar@ucsc.edu.

Santa Cruz Community Veterans Program
Every veteran deserves to have a choice in what kind of help and support they want to pursue when adjusting to life after combat. For those who do not want to plug into VA programs, or who feel they need a non-medical model, the United Veterans Council offers an alternative - a community program designed for veterans and their families. More information can be found by

Are you an Afghanistan and/or Iraq veteran?
Would you like to join similar veterans for Santa Cruz social outings and activities? You are welcome to contact Chris López, Santa Cruz County Vet Center's GWOT Outreach Coordinator, (831) 588-9865, to make plans to get together.
