The Undergraduate Experience Team is here for Transfer Students

The Undergraduate Experience Team (UET) at the University Library is an enthusiastic group of librarians and staff who are dedicated to assessing and improving the undergraduate student experience at UCSC, and contributing to student success.

Four of the Team are also UCSC alums (go Banana Slugs!), and Laura was a transfer student from a California community college. UET provides research services at the Information Services Desk (where you can get expert research help in person!) at McHenry Library, and contributes to the 24/7 Ask A Librarian chat reference service. When they are not busy answering research questions, they are maintaining web pages, designing research tutorials, giving tours and orientations, overseeing the Roving Information Program (where your peers walk throughout the library and are trained to help you with your library research and navigate the library), and coordinating the Library Student Advisory Council (a way for you to get involved!).

There are a few things the Team would love transfer students to know about to help you have a successful experience here at UCSC. First, come ask us for help! We love to hear what you are working on and how the library can support your work. Second, bookmark our website, library.ucsc.edu, and get to know the amazing array of library resources available to you! The banner on the home page will reflect current events and exhibits happening in the library and also highlight key services. For transfers, a particularly great page is our Research Guides page, providing library help guides in every discipline, as well as course-specific guides and other special topics such as statistics or how to cite sources or how to write a literature review. This one page is your gateway to resources you need to find relevant information for your courses, such as scholarly articles.

Course Reserves and Interlibrary Loan are two key services that will help transfer students save money on textbooks, and get materials that are not available at UCSC—and they are free! And if you are new to library research or need a refresher, there is a wonderful self-paced and interactive online tutorial that is available 24/7 to get you going.

As you can see, UET is here to help you succeed as a transfer student at UCSC. Please don’t hesitate to come to us for help or information, and we hope you to see you in your University Library!
